Rhythm and Kin areTamsin and Phoebe Leenhouwers, a mother-daughter duo from the beautiful Riwaka Valley in the Nelson/Tasman region. The music they bring is inspired by traditional Celtic and folk songs, as well as genres such as Kesmic, Tango, Balkin and Gypsy. Phoebe and Tamsin write a lot of their own original music and their set features violin, vocals, tin whistle and guitar.

Tamsin studied classical viola at Massey University before falling in love with the wildness of Celtic, gypsy, jazz and folk styles. She started writing her own music and managed to share the flair with her four daughters. So when Phoebe picked up the guitar, started singing like a lark and also found she could write beautiful music, mother and daughter struck up a musical alliance. They began performing for the local community at public functions such as fairs, festivals, concerts, ceilidhs, parties and weddings.

Rhythm and Kin have brought dancing, joy and love of good music to their community and look forward to bringing it all to the Whare Flat Festival too!
